MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Education is a preparation for future life. As a teacher you’re responsible for shaping your students into well-rounded socially and intellectually adept learners. It is my understanding that with the right support from their teachers, all students can grow to learn to appreciate the arts and utilize their knowledge to solve problems in their everyday lives. Teaching students to think like an artist can provide them with new pathways for communication and making connections in their world.
My goal as an educator is to involve students in a safe, engaging and equitable environment where each child may grow and learn. A good teacher must never forget that discussion and dialogue in a classroom are key aids in reflection and awareness. In teaching these practices I work hard to create an open and welcoming classroom where all beliefs are respected.
I aim to use a variety of tools in the classroom. I believe it is our job as educators to make use of the increasing availability of technology in our classrooms. There are endless possibilities that come with the incorporation of these tools into the various content areas. For the art room in particular digital media is a fast growing field that we must acknowledge and incorporate responsibly into our study as artists.
I also believe that as a teacher I would like to guide my students to become mature independent thinkers. It is important to develop a curriculum that teaches students creativity and problem solving skills. Through effective communication with all of the school community, we may ensure students are receiving a strong interdisciplinary education.
